Application performance management software – additional information
Application performance management (APM) software is a category of software that tracks and manages the availability and health of software applications. The goals of APM software are to deliver improved levels of service while translating IT metrics, such as uptime, availability, or latency, into meaningful business metrics, such as value and client satisfaction. In development, test, datacenter, and network environments, or as part of Software as a Service, APM software is aimed at generating an end-to-end user perspective and providing business context.
The APM software market can be divided into four segments: performance management, event management, network management, and automated software quality. While these segments share qualities with broader application segments, the focus on the performance management of applications means that some traditional elements are excluded. Application performance management software is able to explore more complex operational environments, track hardware and software dependencies, and follow information and processes from end-to-end.
In the APM software segment, large competitors include IBM, CA Technologies, HP, and Microsoft. with the majority of revenue being generated in the Americas. This is largely due to rising demand for APM software for mobile and cloud-based applications, as well as the use of application performance management software among top earning companies and financial institutions in the United States.
