The manufacturing of wearing apparel in the United Kingdom produced 425,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions in 2021. This was an increase of over 20 percent in comparison to the previous year, but a reduction of more than 40 percent compared to 1990 levels.
In addition to emissions, there are other environmental concerns within the fashion industry, such as waste generation, water pollution, and water consumption. A recent survey found that 18 percent of UK respondents said they have tried not to purchase clothing items due to concerns about their environmental impact.
