Energy, water supply and waste: GHG intensity 1997-2016

This statistic shows the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions intensity of the energy and water supply as well as waste management industries* in the United Kingdom (UK) from 1997 to 2016. It shows that the intensity has decreased over the years, however it has been steady for the last few years. While in 1997, 12,460 metric tons of emissions in CO2 equivalent were produced for every million British pounds of gross value added (GVA), for 2016, it were 4,980 metric tons of CO2 equivalent per million British pounds.

Greenhouse gas emissions intensity is calculated by dividing the level of greenhouse gas emissions by Gross Value Added (GVA) in constant prices. Data are in constant prices with 2010 defined as the base year. All emissions intensity figures exclude consumer expenditure. A more detailed explanation can be found in the source.

Industry classification is based on the NACE code, which is the industry standard classification system for economic activities in the European Community.
