Sulfur dioxide emissions the UK 1970-2022
Sulfur dioxide (SO₂) emissions in the United Kingdom totaled 0.12 million metric tons in 2022. This was a 98 percent reduction when compared to the 6.53 million metric tons of sulfur dioxide emitted in 1970, and a nearly 97 percent reduction compared to 1990 levels. Sulfur dioxide is a highly reactive gas, that along with nitrogen oxide (NOx) and ammonia (NH₃) is measured as a precursor to acid rain.
