Volkswagen's passenger car deliveries January-December 2021
VW Car Deliveries
During 2021, the Volkswagen Group delivered around 8.9 million vehicles worldwide, about 8.2 million of which were passenger cars. Compared to one year earlier, Volkswagen sold around 10.3 percent more of its SEAT branded passenger vehicles. Sales of Skoda and Porsche were also considerably higher in 2021, as the automotive industry recovered from the effects of the coronavirus pandemic felt through 2020. While results are encouraging, the manufacturer had to contend with the global chip shortage impacting the sector. In the second half of 2021, VW had cut or halt the vehicle output at some of its manufacturing plants, including its production of SEAT passenger cars near Barcelona. The Volkswagen Passenger Cars and Audi segments of the manufacturer already recorded a drop in sales throughout 2021.
VW brands and the COVID-19 pandemic
The carmaker’s main passenger car brands include Škoda, SEAT, Porsche, the company’s top passenger car brand, VW Passenger Cars, and VW’s best-selling premium brand, Audi. The manufacturer of luxury automobiles is a key contributor to Volkswagen Group’s revenue. High-end segments were the least affected during the 2020 pandemic and the two Volkswagen luxury brands, Audi and Porsche, recorded the smallest decline in annual sales. Both Audi and Porsche rank among the most valuable car brands in the world of 2021.
