Annual levels of brick production in Great Britain 2010-2024

Producers in Great Britain had manufactured less bricks in 2024 than a year earlier. After two years of falling activity, there were 1.33 billion bricks produced in Great Britain, which was the lowest value since 2010.

Bricks were most commonly used for facings

Bricks delivered in Great Britain were most commonly used for facings. That refers to the bricks that are used for surface work on walls. In 2024, 1.1 billion of the 1.4 billion bricks delivered in Great Britain were used for that purpose. Bricks can also be used for internal or for engineering purposes.

Construction industry keeps growing

Bricks are one of the most commonly used materials for building construction, alongside steel, cement, wood, and stone. However, despite the production of bricks having fallen so significantly in the past two years, the gross value added of the construction industry in the UK actually increased during that period.
