Global passenger car production of French manufacturers 1997-2020
French car manufacturers, such as PSA or Renault, actively participate in the global vehicle production market, and had been a growing part of the global automotive industry between 2013 and 2018. Political uncertainties and an economic slowdown led to the overall decline of the automotive sector worldwide in 2019, which impacted French automakers' output. In 2020, production halts due to national lockdowns brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic further cut down French manufacturers' global production. Their global car output dropped by 28.5 percent, down to around 4.5 million units.
