George Weston Limited is a Canadian food processing and distribution company. Founded in Toronto in 1882, Weston’s became known as Canada’s largest and most modern bread factory, later expanding into biscuits and other baked goods. A provider of fresh and frozen baked products, Weston Foods is a wholly owned subsidiary of George Weston Limited. Operating in various locations throughout North America, Weston Foods has more than five thousand employees across their manufacturing facilities, distribution centers and corporate environments. In March 2021, Weston announced that it intended to sell its Weston Foods bakery business. Weston’s also holds controlling share in supermarket retailer Loblaw Companies Limited.
In addition to George Weston Limited, the Weston family also owns or controls numerous other companies throughout Canada and the United Kingdom. Companies include Wittington Investments and Associated British Foods, responsible for upmarket retailers such as Holt Renfrew and Selfridges, as well as discount clothing chain Primark.
