As of December 2023, there were 1,394 beer, wine and liquor stores in the Canadian province of Ontario. With 1,318 liquor stores, the province of Alberta ranked second that year. There was just three of these types of stores to be found in Nunavut.
Canadian wineries by region
Canada has a considerable number of active wineries: in British Columbia alone, there were over 240 establishments to be found in 2023. This province was also home to seven of the top ten wineries at the 2022 WineAlign National Wine Awards of Canada. Ontario had the second-highest number of wineries, just under 200. Other noteworthy provinces included Québec and Nova Scotia, which each had about 50 and 20 wineries, respectively.
Value of the Canadian wine market
In terms of retail sales, the wine industry in Canada has additionally experienced growth in recent years and is expected to keep growing. In 2023, the retail sales value of wine in Canada reached nearly eight billion Canadian dollars.
