View of appropriate pricing for Oculus Rift in the United States 2015

The statistic shows the results of a survey in the United States concerned with the appropriateness of Oculus Rift's pricing. Some 61 percent of the respondents said that the rumored retail price for the Oculus Rift was appropriate.

The virtual reality market is set to grow at a very fast rate in the next few years, with the revenue from virtual reality products – both hardware and software – forecast to reach 5.2 billion U.S. dollars by 2018.

Part of this projected growth is ascribed to the upcoming launch of the virtual reality headset Oculus Rift, expected to be introduced to the retail market in 2016. The device, developed and manufactured by the Facebook-owned company Oculus VR, vies to make virtual reality more accessible to the consumer, and stands a good chance of succeeding in the market according to a Statista survey.

Even though the product is yet to hit the shelves, the Oculus Rift showed to be one of the best-known virtual reality headsets in the U.S. The respondents were also able to identify some of Oculus Rift competitors such as the Samsung Gear, the Sony Project Morpheus, and the Google Cardboard. The Google Cardboard, due to its material and simplicity, is one of the most affordable virtual reality devices in the market. The retail price of the Oculus Rift is rumored to be between 250 and 350 U.S. dollars, an amount that almost 30 percent of American customers are willing to spend on a VR headset in general.
