The figures show that the department was unsuccessful in reducing its overall water consumption during the period. Despite a decrease of 15 percent from 2014-15, consumption remains above the 2009-10 baseline, meaning the Department has not yet met water reduction targets.

The source attributes some of the increase in water consumption to a leak at a Nuclear Decommissioning Authority site, which has now been rectified, and poor performing water dispensers at the core department. The DECC has taken steps to increase maintenance to those dispensers, and to switch those services off out of office hours. Figures for years prior to 2015-16 obtained from earlier annual reports.
