In 2008, the number of unemployed people that were unemployed for longer than one year was roughly 635,300, this number rose to roughly 2.1 million persons unemployed in 2016 before falling to just under 1.1 million in 2023. Throughout the whole period under consideration, the service sector recorded the largest volume of unemployed people.
