In 2022, around 215,000 new passenger cars were registered in Austria. This continues the trend towards declining new passenger car registrations, which began in 2017. Since 2017 new registrations have dropped by nearly 40 percent. The most dramatic year-on-year drop in this period occurred at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, when registrations declined by nearly 25% compared to the previous year.
