Market penetration of banks for Swedish large corporations in 2024

The Swedish bank SEB and Nordea Bank, nowadays headquartered in Finland, were the leading banks for large corporations in Sweden in 2024, with a market penetration rate of 85 and 81 percent respectively. They were followed by the Danish bank Danske Bank and the Swedish bank Handelsbanken. In 2019, Nordea had more than 170 thousand corporate customers in Sweden.

Swedish banks

      There are three leading banks in Sweden: Handelsbanken, SEB and Swedbank, called ‘storbanker’ (large banks). Among the three, Handelsbanken is the largest in terms of total assets. In 2022, its total assets had a value of around 3.45 trillion Swedish kronor. SEB ranked second, and Swedbank third in terms of total assets. Moreover, as of 2022, the three banks together held 54 percent of all loans in Sweden.

Customer satisfaction of Swedish banks

   None of the three large banks in Sweden had the highest customer satisfaction among neither private nor corporate customers in 2020. Among private customers, Handelsbanken had the fifth highest customer satisfaction Index, SEB the sixth, and Swedbank the eight. The leading bank in terms of customer satisfaction that year was Länsförsäkringar Bank. Among corporate customers, Handelsbanken was third, SEB sixth and Swedbank seventh.
