The number of people in Europe reading newspapers and magazines every day has decreased in recent years. In 2022, just about a fifth of Europeans read the written press on a daily basis. In 2012, 37 percent were doing so.
Levels of trust in print media
Why are Europeans turning away from newspapers and magazines? The answer may be that people no longer trust the written press. According to a recent survey, less than half of European citizens tend to trust the written press. In some countries, levels of trust are even lower. In the UK, for example, just 15 percent of respondents said they tend to trust the written press, and 29 percent in Greece said the same.
Online news in the EU
If people are no longer getting news from print media, where are they turning to? It would seem that many are going online to find it. In the EU, the share of citizens reading news on the internet has increased yearly, and it is hard to see this trend changing anytime soon.
