Registered passenger cars in Denmark 1990-2018

The number of passenger cars in Denmark grew consecutively between 1990 and 2018. However, the growth rate slowed since 2010, indicating a saturated market. In 2018, there were roughly 2.6 million passenger cars in the country, a slight increase compared to the previous year.
This translated into a motorization rate of 438 such vehicles per 1,000 inhabitants. The peak in the period of consideration.

Electric car stock

Stock of electric cars saw a particularly prominent increase in recent years. In 2016, 0.3 percent of all registered cars in the country were electrically motored. However, in the following years figures grew by a third, reaching 10,037 units by January 2019.

Car sales

New passenger car registrations declined in 2018. That year, Danish consumers bought 218,600 such vehicles, a decrease compared to 221,600 units the year before. This was the first time since the beginning of the reporting period in 2000 that such a negative trend was recorded.
