This statistic shows the results of a survey concerning the most popular product categories among online shoppers in Germany in December 2017. When asked what products they had bought online within the last 12 months, nearly 43 percent of respondents stated that they had purchased apps on the internet. Apps were the most popular product to be purchased online by Germans, corresponding with the rising number of smartphone users. Books followed, with 39 percent of respondents buying them online, and the third best-selling e-commerce product in Germany were event tickets (for the cinema, theater etc.) B2C e-commerce revenue in Germany was forecasted to amount to 99.33 billion U.S. dollars in 2018, having also shown continuous growth during recent years. In fact, the share of e-commerce in total retail revenue in Germany grew from 7.2 percent in 2009 to 12.7 percent in 2016.
