Annual volume of beer consumed per capita in Hungary 2008-2022

In 2022, the volume of beer consumption per capita in Hungary amounted to 68 liters, an increase compared to 2020. At the same time, the total beer consumption in the country was measured at approximately 6.7 million hectoliters.

Beer production

  As of 2022, there were 75 breweries in Hungary, including microbreweries, and the volume of beer produced in the country totaled 5.7 million hectoliters. In 2022, Heineken Hungária was the biggest beer producer in Hungary, generating revenue worth over 76 billion forints. It was followed by Dreher Sörgyárak while Borsodi Sörgyár ranked third.

Reasons for drinking beer

  According to the findings of the survey conducted in 2019, most Hungarians liked drinking beer because of the taste. However, one-fifth of the respondents stated that they consumed beer because it brought people together. Nevertheless, when asked about the appropriate drink for a date, most Hungarians chose wine over beer.
