Vegetable and animal oils and fats: manufacturing turnover in Norway 2009-2021

In the period from 2008 to 2014, the revenue of Norwegian vegetable and animal oils and fats manufacturers generally decreased. As of 2014, it amounted to around 3.3 billion Norwegian kroner. In the following years, the revenue increased again, peaking in 2018 at roughly 19.3 billion Norwegian kroner. In 2021, the revenue was approximately 5.9 billion Norwegian kroner. The number of enterprises in this industry fluctuated during the years from 2008 to 2017. According to provisional data for 2020, there were 34 manufacturers of vegetable and animal oils and fats in Norway.

Comparable to this domestic decrease of manufacturers is the annually growing amount of vegetable oils and fats imported into Norway. In 2021, this figure was highest as the import value of fixed vegetable fats and oils into the country reached almost 7.1 billion Norwegian kroner. By comparison, the export value was 746 million Norwegian kroner.

Also, the value of animal oils and fats imported into Norway grew overall in the years from 2009 to 2020. In 2020, the import value of animal oils and fats into the country was nearly 4.5 billion Norwegian kroner, while the export value was approximately two billion Norwegian kroner.
