Automated teller machines or ATM's have been decreasing in many countries in the European Union over the period 2000 to 2023. This is also the case for Ireland, where the total number of ATMs in Ireland amounted to around 1,300 in 2023. This number was approximately 1,400 in the year before. POS terminals, on the other hand, saw a steep increase in recent years. As of 2023, there were around 1.9 million POS terminals in Ireland.
