The United Kingdom (UK) is clearly the most productive country in the mining sector in Europe. In terms of market value, the top five mining companies were based in the UK, and two further British companies were in the mining sector top 10. The other three mining firms in the Europe 500 were based in Russia, France and Sweden. Rio Tinto had the highest market value, amounting to 58 billion U.S. dollars.
