The number of direct debit payments generally increased in Spain between 2000 and 2023, albeit with significant fluctuations. In 2012, there were more than 2.43 billion direct debit transactions in the country, which declined to under two billion in 2015 for the first time since 2004. As of 2023, there were over 2.1 billion transactions.
