Priority medical procedures in Canada within benchmark time 2010-2023
In 2023, 94 percent of radiation therapy treatments occurred within its national benchmark of 28 days of waiting time. Long wait times can prevent sick patients from receiving timely health care services.
During the COVID pandemic, non-urgent procedures were delayed, as seen in the large drop in shares of knee/hip replacement and cataract surgery occurring within benchmark wait times. Surgery backlogs are slowly being processed. Urgent treatments have mostly been unaffected.
