In 2022, seed-stage venture capital (VC) represented the largest share of the European VC investment market, followed by business angels and equity crowdfunding. These three main areas of early-stage investment have experienced a steady growth between 2015 and 2019, but saw a decline in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. In 2013, business angels invested an estimated 5.5 billion euros. This value grew to 6.1 billion euros in 2015 and to a further 8.04 billion euros in 2019. In 2020, however, business angels invested 7.67 billion euros, which was equal to almost 58 percent of the total market.
