The number of non-fatal road traffic injuries in Austria rose to about 44,600 individuals in 2023, after having dropped to its lowest number of just under 38,000 at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. Despite rising again, the number of people non-fatally injured in road crashes still remained below pre-pandemic levels.
Road injuries refer to the number of people harmed during a road accident involving at least one motor vehicle. These injuries can be fatal or non-fatal. Non-fatal injuries cover a broad spectrum of reported injuries, including but not limited to hospital stays after an accident.
