The JIM study is published by the Research association for media education south-west (Medienpädagogischer Forschungsverbund Südwest), which is a joint venture of the State office of communication Baden-Württemberg (Landesanstalt für Kommunikation LFK) and the State center of media and communication Rhineland-Palatinate (Landeszentrale für Medien und Kommunikation, LMK).
