In 2023, the most popular payment method in Poland when shopping online was BLIK. In that year, nearly seven out of ten Poles chose this payment method. Besides, almost every fourth respondent used Pay-by-Link payment.
Methods and number of payments
In 2018, the most popular payment method among Poles was a bank transfer. More than half of the payments in that year were made by this method. The second place was taken by card payment. Between 2009 and 2020, Poland recorded an increase of nearly six million direct debit card payments, mainly due to the rise in the number of payment card locations, i.e., access to payment terminals. In recent years, Poles have been increasingly using the possibility of contactless card payments. In 2022, the largest number of active contactless cards was held by mBank bank with over 2.5 million cards.
Payments in e-commerce
In 2020, more than half of the surveyed Poles replied that they did not make online payments. This percentage may result from society's age and the inability and reluctance of the older generation to use the internet, and therefore online payments. In contrast, more than half people in middle-age (25 - 44 years old) used online payments. Due to the growing interest in online payments, e-commerce platforms offer their customers many options. In 2022, all e-commerce platforms offered card payments and BLIK payments.
