This statistic shows the number of victims of police-reported family violence in Canada in 2016, distinguished by sex and type of offence. In 2016, there were 50,223 victims of family-related common assaults in Canada including 16,652 male and 33,571 female victims.

Attempted murder includes conspire to commit murder.
'Sexual offences' includes sexual assault, classified as one of three levels according to the seriousness of the incidents.
'Level 1 common assault' is the least serious form of assault and includes pushing, slapping, punching and face-to-face verbal threats. 'Level 2 major assault' is defined as assault with a weapon or causing bodily harm. 'Level 3 major assault' is defined as assault that wounds, maims, disfigures or endangers the life of the victim. 'Other assaults' includes unlawfully causing bodily harm, discharge firearm with intent, using firearm or imitation firearm in the commission of an offence, pointing a firearm, assault against a peace or public officer, and other assaults.
'Other violent offences' includes criminal negligence causing bodily harm, trap likely to cause or causing bodily harm, kidnapping, forcible confinement, hostagetaking, trafficking in persons, abduction, extortion, intimidation of a non-justice participant, explosives causing death or bodily harm, arson, and other violent violations.
