In 2023, Istanbul Airport, the primary international airport for Istanbul, was Turkey's leading airport, with more than 76 million travelers. The airport was put into service in October 2018, just before the closure of Istanbul Atatürk Airport, which was Turkey's leading airport, between 2013 and 2018. Today, Istanbul Atatürk Airport is still operating as a cargo, maintenance, and general aviation diplomatic flights airport. 

 

Commercial flights

In 2021, nearly 1.2 million scheduled commercial flights departed and landed in the country. Even though figures dropped significantly amid the coronavirus pandemic, as of 2021, the number of commercial flights started increasing again in Turkey.
