In 2020, China's apparent steel use (ASU) per capita reached about 720 kilograms of crude steel equivalent or 691 kilograms of finished steel products. ASU is defined as production plus net imports minus net exports and commonly used to measure steel demand. ASU can be calculated for finished steel and crude steel equivalent. ASU per capita is calculated by dividing total consumption by population size.
