Europe car sales: average engine size in 2018, by country
36% of cars still diesel fueled
Of passenger cars sold in the EU-28 in 2018, 36 percent were diesel fueled. This was a decrease of the 44 percent recorded in the previous year. The share of diesel cars had declined across most European countries, with Italy and Denmark being the exception. By comparison, battery electric and fuel cell engines were most popular among Norwegian car buyers.
Sales volume to reach 16.4m in 2019
Car sales in Europe were forecast to reach 16.7 million units in 2019. Small SUV’s proved to be the most popular segment, which also explained why average engine size of vehicles in Europe had grown to become as large as they are today.
