Leading passenger car models sold in the Netherlands 2023

As of 2023, Tesla's Model Y was the best-selling passenger car model in the Netherlands, with 13,800 cars sold in the country. Despite being the best-selling car brand in the Netherlands that year, none of Volkswagen's models made the top five. 

Number of passenger cars sold

Roughly 369,800 passenger cars were sold in the Netherlands in 2023, which is an increase of around 19 percent compared to the previous year. The majority of these new passenger cars were petrol-fueled in 2023: 78.2 percent had a petrol engine, whereas nearly 9.8 percent were diesel cars. Electric vehicles had a significant increase from a share of 0.2 percent in 2011, to roughly 3.7 percent in 2018. 

Average price of a new passenger car

The average purchase price of a new passenger car grew annually, despite a slight decrease in 2016. As of May 2023, customers had to pay an average price of nearly 46,000 euros for a new passenger car. This is roughly 3,000 euros more than in the previous year.
