Trust in the media in the European Union 2019, by medium

Modern media has changed the extent to which we trust what we see, read, and hear. Only one fifth of respondents to a survey across EU countries in 2019 said they tended to trust online social networks and only slightly more than a third said they trusted the internet.

Traditional media most trusted

Traditional media remains the most trusted form of media in the European Union. Roughly half of EU citizens trust the written press and television. And 59 percent said they tended to trust the radio, making it the most trusted form of media in the EU.  

Trust in news

This trend with traditional media continues when looking at levels of trust in news sources. Traditional media was the most trusted source of news in a 2019 survey, whereas social media was the least trusted.
