The total assets of financial institutions in Germany increased overall between 2008 and 2022, despite some fluctuations across institutions. In 2022, the assets of the central bank dropped by notable amounts, from 3.2 trillion U.S. dollars to 2.9 trillion U.S. dollars. On the other hand, bank assets increased from 9.9 trillion U.S. dollars to 11.3 trillion U.S. dollars. Insurance corporations, pension funds, and other financial intermediaries also saw their assets drop in 2022.
