This statistic shows the projected revenue development of the publishing industry in Germany from 2007 to 2023. According to the projection, the German publishing industry will generate a revenue of roughly 33.4 billion euros in 2023. The figures are based on the latest Branchenreport zum Verlagswesen, which contains further statistical information on the industry. This report only includes companies with a revenue of more than 17,500 euros, which may lead to results that differ from those of other publications.

The industry forecast is based on sector 58 of the industry branch classification of the Statistisches Bundesamt. This sector includes the publishing of books, brochures, flyers and similar printed products, dictionaries and encyclopedias, atlases and similar cartographical products, newspapers and magazines, directories and address lists, as well as software. All of these products have in common that they require creative effort and most of them are protected by copyright. The publishing industry also includes the acquisition of ownership rights for content (informational products), that is made available to the public by providing for its distribution and reproduction in several ways. This section includes all forms of publishing (in printed, electronic or audio format, on the internet, or as multimedia products like reference books on CD-ROM etc.), apart from the releasing of films.
