Assets of global financial institutions by type 2022

The value of total assets of financial institutions worldwide increased gradually between 2002 and 2022, despite a slight drop in 2022. Bank assets attributed for the largest segment of the total assets, with 183.2 trillion U.S. dollars in 2022. Other financial intermediaries (including money market funds, hedge funds, other investment funds, captive financial institutions and money lenders, central counterparties, broker-dealers, finance companies, trust companies, and structured finance vehicles) followed, with total assets exceeding 139.1 trillion U.S. dollars.
