Within India, the maximum demand was created by the housing sector, with a share of 62 percent consumption during financial year 2023. The total consumption of cement at that time stood at around 375.2 million metric tons. The increased demand was a consequence of the government setting up an Affordable Housing fund under the National Housing Bank, which helped the citizens get credits to buy homes.
India's crude steel production has been on an upward trajectory. The country produced about 144 million metric tons of crude steel in fiscal year 2024, maintaining its position as the world's second-largest steel producer. This dual growth in cement and steel production underscores India's commitment to infrastructure development and industrial expansion.
