Volkswagen’s sales in the country in the country have seen a decline in recent years, with 2022 figures lower than those in 2019.
Toyota Corolla most popular model
The leading model sold that same year was the Hyundai Tucson, with the Toyota Corolla coming in second. The popular Toyota model boasts hybrid powertrain technology and is available in both a hatchback and a sports model. Volkswagen’s frontrunners were the ID.4 and T-Roc, accounting for a combined sale of 4,600 units.
Diesel on the decline
Due to a significant fall in popularity, diesel dropped to second place for the propulsion type of new passenger cars. Between 2020 and 2021, diesel car sales declined by nearly eight percent, while electric and petrol/plug-in electric hybrid vehicles recorded a noticeable surge.
Toyota was the most popular car brand in Ireland in 2022. The Japanese automobile company sold 16,100 passenger cars on the Irish market and got ahead of its two main competitors, Volkswagen and Hyundai.
