Arts engagement in England by illness or disability 2005-2020

This statistic depicts the proportion of adults who engaged with the arts in the last year in England, between 2005 and 2020, according to whether or not they had a long-standing illness or disability. Arts engagement refers to attending and/or participating in the arts sector, such as visiting an art gallery or participating in a theatre performance. The gap between the percentage of disabled and non-disabled adults engaging in the arts closed slightly between 2010 and 2014. In 2019/20, 76 percent of ill or disabled respondents said they had taken part in at least one art event or activity in the year prior to the survey compared to 78 percent of those with no illness or disability.
