Spain: best-selling car models 2023

During 2023, the passenger car model with the most new registrations in Spain was the Dacia Sandero, with nearly 28,000 units sold. Seat, the Spanish brand headquartered in Catalonia, produced the second best-selling model that year, with around 21,600 sales. 

The slump of diesel engines

According to the latest studies, Europe has been experiencing a shift in consumer behavior when purchasing a car. Sales of diesel models have been recording a downtrend since 2013 in all European countries. In contrast, electric vehicle sales have been growing in Europe between 2015 and 2022. In 2023, plug-in hybrid vehicles and battery electric vehicles represented some 12 percent of the Spanish new passenger car market.

Germany car models less popular in Spain

In 2023, only one Volkswagen models made it into this ranking: the T-Roc. The German car manufacturer VW Group held the largest market share of passenger cars in Europe in 2023, taking up 26 percent of the total market. German car brands also appeared on a list of most expensive passenger cars, perhaps explaining why they did not top Spain's sales ranking.
