This statistic displays the gold mining employment by selected top companies as of 2013, in selected countries. During that year, there were 10,035 employees and contractors in the Australian gold mining industry. As the mining of gold and other minerals are non-renewable, care must be taken to support sustainable development in mining locations. In countries where mining has become a dominant industry, collaboration between government and mining companies have become more prevalent.

* This statistic is based on a survey including data from 15 companies with operations
in over 25 countries with a total of over 160,000 employees
and contractors. The operations reflected in this survey cover 732 metric tons, representing 24 percent. While this is considered a representative sample, it is only part
of the picture and the actual total global impact of gold mining
is much greater than shown in this report.
