The value of venture capital raised by companies in Europe has been steadily increasing between early 2015 and the second quarter of 2022. Since then, however, VC raised in Europe decreased considerably quarter-on-quarter, reaching a value of 9.8 billion U.S. dollars in the first quarter of 2023. Venture capital is a type of private equity and refers to the money invested in startups and small businesses deemed to have long-term growth potential.
