On a typical weekday in 2017, some 149,000 people entered King’s Cross St. Pancras Underground station. First opened in 1863, it currently serves six Underground lines, while also connecting to main line stations King’s Cross and St. Pancras.
The number of travelers using said tube station increased in recent years. Weekday entries increased by over a third since 2007, while Sunday entries climbed from 61,377 to 98,579 in the same reporting period.
Busiest tube stations
In 2017, King’s Cross St. Pancras surpassed Waterloo to be come the busiest tube station. That year, it recorded 97.9 million entries and exits, which was a three percent growth on the previous year. By comparison, Waterloo station saw figures decline from over 100 million entries and exits in 2016 to 91.3 million the following year.
Tube still popular
The rise in usage of King’s Cross St. Pancras Underground station was indicative of a general increase in passenger journeys with the London Underground. In the fiscal year ending March 2019, the Tube recorded roughly 1.4 billion passenger journeys, of which over one billion were made with ordinary tickets such as daily travel cards.
