There were approximately 411,000 people aged between 16 and 24 employed on a zero-hours work contract in the United Kingdom in 2024, compared with 76,000 people over the age of 65. The zero-hours contract is a type of employment contract that doesn't guarantee the worker a minimum number of working hours from their employers. Throughout this period, the 16 to 24 age group has consistently had the highest number of workers on this type of employment contract.
