In 2020, when the ad market was experiencing the negative impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, digital advertising spending in South Africa increased by eight percent. However, ad spending print media (newspapers and magazines) contracted by 22 percent. In total, the value of the South African ad market decreased by five percent that year.
