Leading e-commerce delivery methods used in France 2023

In 2023, when purchasing products or services online, almost eight in ten French e-buyers chose home delivery as their preferred e-commerce delivery method, while 26 percent opted for Click & Collect. The delivery of parcel to a pick-up point was also quite popular, used by 71 percent of French e-shoppers.

Favorite delivery options

As the most convenient option for the consumer, home delivery remains the favorite among French e-shoppers. Beside choosing a pick-up point for their orders, the possibility to “click & collect” directly in the physical store of the retailer could also be attractive for the consumer, as it tends to entail lower delivery costs. Furthermore, the drive-thru option is also a popular one among French shoppers, particularly used when online grocery shopping. In 2022, almost eleven billion euros were generated in revenues from drive-thru grocery e-commerce in France.

E-commerce in France

In 2022, e-commerce revenue in France reached nearly 147 billion euros, a marked increase from around 43.6 billion euros a decade prior, in 2012. The expansion of the e-commerce market in France came hand in hand with a similar increase in e-commerce user penetration in the country: while only 11 percent of the French population bought something online in 2003, that figure increased to 77 percent in 2022.
