This statistic shows the number of victim-reported criminal damage offences in England and Wales from 2000 to 2016. The Crime Survey for England and Wales interviews people to find out if they've been a victim of crime in the previous 12 months. These figures are generally higher than the police recorded crime statistics. According to the survey, criminal damage saw a 1.4 million decrease over the assessed period.

(in 1,000)
Respondents are asked directly about their experience of crime, irrespective of whether or not they reported these incidents to the police. As such the CSEW provides a record of peoples’ experiences of crime which is unaffected by variations in reporting behavior of victims or variations in police practices of recording crime.
Survey results are extrapolated to represent the whole of England and Wales using official population figures.
