U.S. auto dealerships - sales breakdown by department 2018-2021
Used vehicles accounted for around 36.7 percent of sales generated by franchised car dealerships in 2021, up from about 33 percent the previous year. The contribution of new vehicles fell from 55 percent in 2020 to 52.2 percent in 2021. This shift towards used vehicles is linked with an increasing new vehicle average selling price in the United States.
