Latin America and the Caribbean: share of web traffic 2024, by device

As of August 2024, the majority of countries from Latin America had most of their web traffic originating from mobile devices. Haiti ranked first regarding mobile traffic, with 85.17 percent, followed by Jamaica and Cuba. Regarding desktop computers, Brazil had the highest share of its web traffic coming from desktop devices, followed by Peru, Uruguay, and Ecuador. Additionally, the archipelago of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and Antigua and Barbuda had the highest share of online traffic coming from tablets, with 7.95 percent and 6.97 percent, respectively. 

Unequal access to the internet...

Unfortunately, these developments usually do not come equally to all Latin American countries: according to 2024 estimates, around one in four Ecuadorians had no access to mobile internet that year. The country's penetration rate might reach just over 80 percent by 2028, whereas there were approximately 12 million mobile internet users in 2022. Meanwhile, the Dominican Republic had the highest share of web traffic coming from desktop devices but also one of the lowest from mobile devices, showing little development in its access to mobile opportunities.

...but a steady growth and boost to related sectors

Despite its inequality, the increasing mobile connectivity in Latin America keeps transforming the region’s digital landscape. Growing connectivity has improved access to social networks, and consequently gathered more investment in social media advertising. Additionally, the number of online shopping customers increased throughout the region. Countries like Colombia and Per particularly observed improvements in their e-commerce economies, which are even more significant when comparing them to these markets’ still comparatively low online reach.
