It was forecast that cement projection would rise over the last few years, reaching 100 million metric tons in 2019 in the United States. This projection was supported by both residential and non-residential construction trends as well as an overall, positive economic impact. Under recent historical figures, it was found that domestic production of both Portland and masonry cement as well as cement clinker have mostly increased since the 2008 Recession, although not completely recovered.
Cement is produced by heating lime, silica, alumina, along with other materials to obtain a marble-like ball designated as “clinker”. This clinker is then ground and mixed with limestone and gypsum to create concrete. On the other hand, concrete is a combination of aggregates like sand and gravel and a paste formed from cement and water.
